There are new challenges that are more complex than ever before and this requires a different approach to team and group development. Some of the challenges I am hearing from my clients include a need for true collaboration, an ability to deal with increased complexity and rapid change, a stronger ability to partner with stakeholders and thinking with a global mindset while acting locally.
I work with teams and groups who are interested and curious in developing a group dynamic that enables them to survive and thrive. In today’s rapidly changing environment, most teams and groups are dealing with complex challenges that cannot be solved the traditional way. In my work with teams and groups I use an adaptive leadership approach.
This approach focuses on supporting both the individual and the collective to take on the gradual but meaningful process of adaptation. I work with groups to develop capacity and capability at both an individual and a team level to solve complex leadership challenges that bring real change to the status quo.
It is about mobilising people to tackle tough challenges and thrive. Complex challenges can only be addressed through changes in people’s priorities, beliefs, habits and loyalties.
Progress requires going beyond any authoritative expertise to mobilise discovery, tolerating losses, and generating the new capacity to thrive anew – this is different to the traditional view that authority rests with the leader. I co-create an environment where many exercise more leadership rather than the few. I facilitate dialogue, help the group anchor to purpose and hold up a mirror to enable the group to see how their dynamics are helping or hindering their ability to make progress. I enjoy challenging a group and creating a psychologically safe holding space to enable that to happen.
